This Club Sandwich Recipe is one heck of a sandwich. It’s a thick one, making every mouthful count with each bite! This sandwich makes the perfect lunch or dinner for anyone!
You can either choose to split it with someone else with a side salad for a lighter meal or take on the whole sandwich yourself. I’m always down for the whole sandwich, I can’t get enough of a good sandwich recipe!
The traditional a club sandwich used ham OR bacon, but I say use both, which we have always done. My family loves when I make this deluxe Club Sandwich Recipe since it has all the best flavors and is super filling.
This is also a great recipe to make for picnics, or outdoor gatherings since it is cut and is absolutely sharable and everyone can grab their own little portion.
This is something we do a lot in the summer months and everyone seems to like it. So not only is it great for yourself or family, it’s great for gatherings as well.

WHAT’S IN A TRADITIONAL CLUB SANDWICH?
A traditional Club has 3 slices of bread, 2 layers of meat, lettuce, mayo and tomatoes. But our Club Sandwich has all those things plus cheddar cheese and bacon!
Things have changed and you will see it made this way a lot of the time, but traditionally it is not made with the cheese and either ham or bacon, but we took the leap because we love it.
WHERE DID THE CLUB GET ITS NAME?
Club Sandwich is actually called The Clubhouse Sandwich but quickly got shortened to The Club.
The Club Sandwich was made in a Clubhouse and was made for its members and guests only. It quickly gained popularity and is now made just about everywhere.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CLUB SANDWICH AND BLT?
While these sandwiches are quite similar, the Club Sandwich has been around longer than a BLT. A BLT is just bacon, lettuce, tomato, and usually mayo on two pieces of toast.
Our Club is like a BLT with both deli ham and deli turkey and cheddar cheese added. And, of course, the extra slice of toasted white bread.
CAN YOU MAKE THIS AHEAD OF TIME?
You could make this ahead, but the bacon would become soggy, so it is probably better made right before eating, unless you don’t mind soggy bacon.
HOW TO STORE:
This sandwich is best enjoyed once you make it. If you save any leftovers, be sure to wrap them in saran wrap and aluminum foil to keep them fresh as long as possible.
You can store the leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. The sandwich may become soggy quickly because of the bacon and other ingredients. So I would recommend eating leftovers as soon as possible if you are keeping them.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- We donโt use too much of any one ingredient (besides the bread) because then the sandwich would be way too big and difficult to eat. I like to kind of smush down the top of the top piece of bread so it all condenses down, then I cut, this makes it easier to eat.
- Choose the bread wisely. Make sure you use a thinner cut bread so the sandwich isnโt too difficult or big to eat.
- You can use plain deli turkey and plain deli ham where you can change that out for honey ham, peppered turkey, etc.
- I find it easier to eat my sandwich quarters by leaving the toothpick in and eating around the toothpick until I can safely and easily remove it.
- You can swap the white bread out for other bread choices, just be sure to toast it so it holds the sandwich together easier.
If you’ve been on the hunt for a shareable Club Sandwich Recipe, this big ol’ sandwich is the one for you. Super easy, satisfying and filling!
