When it comes to cakes this Classic Pound Cake has always been a favorite, super simple with minimal ingredients makes this cake a winner.
If you were anything like me, growing up you grew up with the traditional pound cake recipe. My mom was a huge pound cake fan and this was one of the cakes that she made most often.
Now this cake is basic, but the flavor in this pound cake is just so good that regardless of how simple and plain it might seem, it has and will still remain one of my absolute favorite cakes ever.
There are so many different ways that people make pound cake that it is crazy to consider what is truly “classic” there are pound cakes that are made with lemon, cream cheese, sour cream, etc.
Now those I don’t myself consider classic pound cakes, but I could be mistaken, we consider this recipe classic as it’s what we have always and continue to use over and over again, going back decades.
WHAT INGREDIENTS DO YOU NEED?
- Flour
- Sugar
- Butter
- Milk
- Eggs
- Vanilla
This ingredients list is super short, although the amounts of each ingredient are a lot. Now they don’t call it pound cake for nothing, it is called pound cake because usually it has a pound of each ingredients, now mine is scaled back slightly but does include one pound of butter, so you know its going to be good and rich!
When I think of easy cakes I think of just basic tried and true recipes that my mom used to make. I will admit that these days I love to branch out with fun a creative recipes but just the classics are the ones I still love the most.
Some of my other favorite classic cake recipes include:
Let’s just say all in all I’m addicted to all things cake. I don’t know what it is but cake has always been and always will be my weakness. It will be that one dessert that I put above all else.
Now while I don’t have a real true favorite cake recipe, traditional is the best. This easy pound cake can be topped with a lot of different things.
Now our favorite things is just some fresh whipped cream and some fresh fruit most of the times. But there are a lot of people who like to top it with a drizzle of caramel or chocolate even.
Now however you eat your cake is perfectly fine by me as long as you eat it all. Now that is just cake abuse if you don’t finish that!
HOW DO YOU MAKE THE PERFECT POUND CAKE RECIPE?
- Preheat oven to 325.
- Spray and flour a 10″ tube pan and set aside.
- In bowl of stand mixer add your flour, sugar, butter, milk, eggs and vanilla.
- Beat on low speed for about 2 minutes until it starts to combined then bump your speed up to medium and beat for another 2 minutes until smooth.
- Spread into prepared pan and bake in oven for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
- Remove from oven and let cool in pan for about 5-10 minutes before removing and cooling completely on wire rack.
This classic pound cake recipe couldn’t get any easier. If you don’t own a tube pan you can also use an angel food cake pan or a 10 cup bundt pan, as long as it will hold enough of this batter because it is quite a lot.
This is one recipe to keep on your menu because everyone loves a good pound cake and its one of those recipes that never gets old!

Did you use unsalted butter?
Tornadough Alli
You can use either, if you don’t want salt in the recipe use unsalted. If you want the hint of salt then use salted. You can also use unsalted with 1/2-1 teaspoon salt as well. I’ll clarify that in my recipe, thank you!

The flour is self rising or you have to put baking powder
Tornadough Alli
There is actually no leavening agents in traditional pound cake recipes, so just use straight up all-purpose flour and no baking powder or soda.

This is almost identical to the pound cake recipe I got from my mom years ago. It is so easy to make, and so delicious. My favorite way to serve it is for strawberry shortcake. So good!
