WHY ARE MY PUDDING SHOTS RUNNY?
WHAT KIND OF PUDDING SHOULD I USE?
For this Banana Pudding Shot recipe, youโll first need a box of instant vanilla pudding mix. You want to grab the instant pudding mix as the cook & serve will not work in these pudding dessert shots!
We don’t use banana pudding in this because we are using banana liqueur instead, so the vanilla works really well, but you could also use white chocolate or cheesecake. See below for alternative.
DO I HAVE TO USE BANANA LIQUEUR?
Sometimes finding Banana liqueur can be difficult, so you can use your favorite vodka or rum. You can also swap the vanilla pudding mix out for banana cream pudding mix to get that banana flavor we want in this.
HOW TO STORE:
You can store leftover pudding shots in the refrigerator with lid for up to 5 days. I recommend waiting to add the toppings if you think you’ll be having leftovers to refrigerate.
You can also freeze your pudding shots lidded for up to 3 months, again wait to add the toppings.
To thaw them, simply remove them from the freezer and place them in the refrigerator overnight. Don’t try to speed up the process by heating them up as this will change the consistency.
Also, it’s important to know that your frozen shots will most likely change consistency when going from frozen to thawed.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- These shots are light in texture, if you want thicker shots, you can use less milk in the pudding recipe.
- If you want more banana flavor, add a few drops of high quality banana extract.
- Feel free to add any nuts to bring a chunky monkey feel to these pudding shots, crushed peanuts, walnuts, almonds, and pecans would all be good options.
- Wait until you’re ready to serve these shots before adding the toppings.
- You can make these ahead of time, just store them in the refrigerator for up to a day in advance.
- You can freeze these, see my tips above.
- Feel free to use fresh made whipped cream instead of the whipped topping. To make your own, take 2 cups of heavy whipping cream and a 1/4 cup of powdered sugar and put them in a mixing bowl and whip them together until stiff peaks form. You can use half as a topping, and half in the pudding shot mix.
Looking for the perfect dessert and shot combo, this easy Banana Split Pudding Shot recipe is just what you need. They’re light, creamy and the rainbow sprinkles, whipped topping, and cherry really bring home that banana split feel!
