- In a medium-sized bowl, place the butter, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning and mix it together until all is combined and smooth.
- Spread the butter mixture over one side of the bread slices evenly. Then lay the pieces of bread butter side up onto a sheet tray until you’re ready to use them.
- Over medium-low heat, in a skillet, place a piece of bread butter side down into the skillet. Then place a slice of mozzarella on top of the bread. Then, add 6 pepperoni slices, followed by another slice of mozzarella cheese, 6 more pepperonis, and a final slice of mozzarella cheese.
- Place the top piece of bread on, butter side up. You may end up with leftover pepperoni.
- Place a lid on the skillet to help melt the cheese, and cook until the bottom of the bottom piece of bread is a golden brown, typically takes about 3-5 minutes. Carefully flip the sandwich over using a spatula. Place the lid back on again and continue to cook the other side, until it’s golden brown on the bottom and the cheese is melted in the center. Repeat with the remaining sandwiches.
- Serve immediately with warm pizza sauce for dipping and enjoy.
WHAT OTHER TOPPINGS CAN I ADD
I like to keep these sandwiches simple and just like a classic pepperoni pizza, but if you want to add more to them, go for it!
Some delicious ideas to add would be: crumbled Italian sausage, onions, peppers, mushrooms, bacon, Canadian bacon, pineapple, basil, ground beef, etc.
Just make sure the meats are cooked first before adding them to your Grilled Cheese, we also like to saute our vegetables just to get them a little more soft.
DO I HAVE TO USE PIZZA SAUCE?
No pizza sauce? No problem! Instead, you can use your favorite homemade or store-bought marinara sauce. These Grilled Cheese Pizza Sandwiches are also amazing dipped in tomato soup or even ranch dressing.
CAN I USE OTHER BREAD?
I usually use a thick white bread fro this recipe, but if you wanna change it up, try Texas Toast, garlic bread, or focaccia bread for a really tasty sandwich!
HOW TO STORE:
Wrap your leftover sandwiches in plastic wrap or store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator where they will keep for up to 3 days.
These can also be frozen, place in plastic wrap in a freezer container or bag and they will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. To defrost, remove to the refrigerator overnight.
To reheat leftovers, you can microwave them, but they will most likely end up soggy. Instead place the sandwich in a warm pan on the stovetop and slowly reheat it on both sides until warmed through.
You can also try to reheat it for a few minutes in the Air Fryer. It can burn quickly there, so keep watch on it.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Its best to cook these in batches to not overcrowd your pan.
- To keep them crispy, I suggest placing the finished sandwiches on a wire rack sitting on top of a sheet tray so they donโt collect steam on the bottom and create a soggy sandwich.
- You can add in other ingredients to make an epic sandwich, see some of my suggestions above.
- These can easily be doubled.
- Feel free to swap out the bread, see above for some substitutions.
- Other cheese can be used, just use your favorite. We like mozzarella as it keeps to the pizza theme but provolone, parmesan, etc. is also good.
- These can be frozen, see above on how to do that.

This was great! I wasn’t sure I could flip it well with the sauce inside, so we dipped in the sauce instead. Still very tasty!! Thank you. ๐
