If you want a little change in your normal pie routine that is absolutely amazing, then you have to whip up this Maple Bourbon Pecan Pie, easy, tasty and delish!
Pecan Pie is a really classic holiday dish, we have it every single year. But I always get bored with the normal, and in my fashion I always like to switch things up a bit.
This Maple Bourbon Pecan Pie has all your favorite regular Pecan Pie flavors but with a hint of bourbon and maple, which really takes this recipe too the next level.
I used to hate pies, I don’t know why, I think as a kid I just thought they were a weird concept, but growing up and becoming more knowledgable about baking I learned to love them.
They are a classic dish that have endless possibilities, but lets just say this Bourbon Pecan Pie has become of of my favorite pies we have ever created.
Some of my other favorite pies we have on our site include Coconut Cream Pie, Cranberry Pie and Impossible Pie!
WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- With minimal pantry staple ingredients, this pie whips up quick.
- You can use a homemade pie crust or a store bought pie crust.
- You can make double the pies to save one and take one.
I just want to reiterate how much I love this Maple Bourbon Pecan Pie Recipe. I love easy pies and this pie is super easy! But I love easy anything and you can tell if you have followed me for some time.
But there is just something about this pie that I love, I think it’s all the flavors that are mixed together that really give it a little different taste but still that same classic flavor.
HOW TO MAKE MAPLE BOURBON PECAN PIE, STEP BY STEP:
- In a medium bowl, combine bourbon and pecans, stirring until pecans are coated with bourbon and can marinade while making the filling, set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk eggs until they are completely combined together.
- Add in maple syrup, sugars, melted butter, and vanilla.
- Whisk together until fully combined.
- Fold in pecan mixture until the filling is well combined.
- Pour the pie filling over the prepared crust. Bake 350 degrees for about 30-33 minutes. The filling will set once it is cooled.
See how simple is this Maple Bourbon Pecan Pie? I think Pecan Pie is one of those easier recipes to make when it comes to pies because everything is just make pretty much in one bowl.
Then you pour it into a crust and boom, bake and you’re done. So simple, that is why I love making this pie so much!
WHAT BOURBON IS BEST?
I wouldn’t say that there is any bourbon that is not good for this pie. There are some that are top shelf recommended, but I don’t even deal with that.
I’m not going to waste all the money in the world on bourbon but if you want some recommendations Knob Creek, Jim Beam and Wild Turkey is some that we have used.
But don’t think that you have to have top notch bourbon for this recipe because the amounts are so minimal, just get yourself a little tiny bottle and not a big one and use it for this recipe.
CAN I SUBSTITUTE BOURBON?
You absolutely can! They do make bourbon extract that you can use for this recipe or vanilla which can be substituted with 4 tsps of that.
You can also substitute rum extract as well, it will give it a slightly different flavor but substitute it the same way.
HOW TO STORE:
Since Bourbon Pecan Pie does contain eggs it should not be left out at room temperature for more than two hours. It is best stored in the refrigerator.
It also helps the center set up better when stored that way as well. So cover with foil and place in the refrigerator any leftovers you might have, this will last up to 4 days.
You can also freeze this pie! To do so, bake and cool pie according to directions and then wrap in plastic wrap or foil and place in a large freezer bag, this should last in the freezer for up to 3 months.
To serve, let defrost in the refrigerator overnight. I do not recommend freezing an uncooked Bourbon Pecan Pie.
This is why we always make double batches, usually around Thanksgiving we will make our two pies and we will freeze one so we can bring it to our Christmas!
That is the beauty of baking, a lot of stuff is easily freezable and we love that because we always like to have things on hand when the time calls for it.
And usually around the holidays our freezer is stocked with various desserts and such just so we don’t have to be in a rush when that party comes along and we need to bring something.
If you are a regular Pecan Pie lover then I guarantee that you’ll love this Maple Bourbon Pecan Pie as well, I mean who doesn’t like a little alcohol added to their desserts anyways?
I know around Fall and Christmas we always love making spiked drinks or desserts, they just always seem to go over well with the crowds and stuff.
So whenever we get the chance we do like to bake with alcohol because it really is fun and
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Do not chop your pecans for this recipe, we like to use them whole.
- Make sure that your pie has time to cool, this is how the center will set up otherwise you will be left with a runny pie.
- You can substitute the bourbon in this recipe, see my tips above.
- This pie can be frozen, also see my tips above.
- We use homemade pie crust for this recipe, but you can also use store-bought to cut down on time.
- If you notice that your edges of your pie are getting darker before your pie is finished, throw some pie shields on or tinfoil to protect them from burning.
If you want that perfect pie to bring to your next gathering or because you are craving it then you need to whip up this Maple Bourbon Pecan Pie!
