With a tart and sweet lemon flavor and a nice kick from the alcohol, this Limoncello Recipe is a tasty spring and summer drink you can easily make at home.
When you can make your own alcohol at home, why not right? That is one thing that we love to do.
This Limoncello is super easy to make and requires minimal ingredients. 4 to be exact, I mean you really can’t get much easier.
The hardest thing about this Limoncello Recipe is that you have to let it sit for 2-4 weeks to really get that flavor that it requires.
Trust me, that time is not wasted because you will have an amazing drink at the end that you will want to sip on all the time or use in other cocktails.
If you love making your own alcohols at home, then you absolutely have to give this Limoncello Recipe a try.

WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- With only 4 ingredients, it doesn’t take much effort.
- While having to let it sit for 2-4 weeks you get the best flavor possible.
- You can drink this as is or use in other cocktail recipes.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST):
Organic lemons
Everclear liquor
Water
Granulated sugar
HOW TO MAKE A LIMONCELLO RECIPE, STEP BY STEP:
- Peel lemons with a potato peeler.
- Place the peels into a large jug or mason jar making sure there is as little of the white pith left as possible on it.
- Pour in the Everclear, making sure the lemon peels are fully submerged.
- Place on the lid of the jug or jar and place in a dark place. Shake the jar every day or so to redistribute the lemon peels. Do this for 2-4 weeks.
- After the 2โ4-week mark, add the water and sugar to a large pot over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar has dissolved.
- Remove from the stovetop and allow the sugar water to come to room temperature.
- Strain the lemon peels with a fine mesh strainer over a large bowl.
- To the bowl add the sugar water and stir.
- Add the limoncello to containers of your choice and store them in the refrigerator.
I CAN’T FIND EVERCLEAR, WHAT ELSE CAN I USE?
I know that everyone does not have access to Everclear and that is absolutely fine, do not panic!
You do want a higher proof alcohol for this so in substitution I would use 100 proof vodka.
Everclear will infuse the lemon flavor quicker whereas the lower proof vodka will add a week or more.
DO I HAVE TO USE ORGANIC LEMONS?
This is preferred because regular lemons have a wax coating, but you can use regular lemons.
You will just want to scrub them and make sure that you get all the wax off the peel as that is the most important ingredient for this Limoncello Recipe.
WHAT CAN I MAKE USING LIMONCELLO?
When it comes to a Limoncello Recipe you can sip it as is, or use it in other cocktail recipes. Some of our other favorite recipes that uses this include:
- Lemon Cherry Martini
- Boozy Lemonade Slushies
- Limoncello Spritzer
- Limoncello Cosmopolitan
- Lemon Drop Martini
- Limoncello Tonic
HOW LONG DOES THE LEMON PEELS AND ALCOHOL NEED TO SIT?
Depending on what alcohol you use it can be anywhere from 2-4 weeks. The higher the alcohol content the quicker it will infuse.
Limoncello gets better with time, so you can leave it anywhere from 2-4 weeks for the most potent lemon flavor possible.
Remember to give your jar a good shake every day or so to redistribute everything.
HOW TO STORE:
While this doesn’t require being refrigerated, we prefer to serve it chilled. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
You can also freeze this Limoncello Recipe, make sure you are storing in a freezer safe container and it will keep for up to 1 year.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- We recommend using organic lemons for this recipe to reduce the wax.
- You can use 100 proof vodka in place of the Everclear.
- Make sure that you are getting as little pith from your lemon peels as possible.
- Shake your jar daily do redistribute the mixture.
- The longer it sits the more potent lemon flavor it will have, we recommend 2-4 weeks.
