HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE ALFREDO SAUCE, STEP BY STEP:
- In medium saucepan add your butter and melt.
- Once melted add your cream cheese and whisk until it is combined and creamy.
- Add in your heavy cream, parmesan, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
- Whisk everything together until it has thickened and is creamy.
Literally how much more easy of an Alfredo Sauce recipe can you get! This is the one and only Alfredo sauce that I have been using for many years and have not turned back.
With such little time and effort tit takes to make this recipe, it is a no brainer, it’s the one sauce that my family prefers and my friends always asks me when pasta night is because they are always craving it.
HOW TO THICKEN ALFREDO SAUCE:
While this sauce will thicken on it’s own, especially with the addition of the cream cheese in the recipe which really gives it a nice and creamy texture, you can also add some more parmesan cheese, you can never go wrong with more cheese.
Other ways to thicken Alfredo sauce include mixing about 1 tsp of cornstarch with 1 tsp milk or water and stirring it in the mixture and heating until it thickens up a bit.
CAN I FREEZE HOMEMADE ALFREDO SAUCE?
You’ll be happy to hear that the answer is yes. While a lot of dairy products to tend to separate because of the fats and waters that they contain, if you do it right you will have a great sauce after it is frozen.
The best time to freeze if right when it is fresh, pour the sauce into a freezer bag (don’t fill all the way) and press out any air that remains in the bag. This can be frozen for up to 3 months for the best quality of flavor.
To defrost, let sit in refrigerator overnight, you may see that the mixture will have separated but it is easy to stir and bring all the ingredients back together.
This sauce also stores well in the refrigerator, it should last about 5 days in an airtight container. Reheating is super simple as well, just place in a pan and slowly heat up on the stove, if needed to thin out add a little bit more cream to the mixture.
This Alfredo Sauce really truly is one of the best ones around. Not only does the cream cheese bring a lot of flavor to the recipe, it really makes the texture just a step above the rest.
There is no extra thickening from making a roux or anything, that cream cheese right there is the key ingredient to this recipe, and I stand by that 100%.
