HOW TO MAKE FRIED GREEN BEANS, STEP BY STEP:

- To make the batter, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
- Whisk in the beer and egg, until smooth.
- Shake off any excess cornstarch and then add the green beans to the bowl with the batter, coat the green beans in the batter.
- Letting the excess batter drip off into the bowl, add the green beans to the hot oil one at a time. If using a deep fryer, shake the basket as you add them, so they donโt stick together. If using a skillet, stir well to make sure they are separated. Make sure to fry in batches to not overcrowd the pan or deep fryer
- Fry for 4-5 minutes until golden brown. Occasionally stirring or shaking, so the beans brown evenly on all sides.
- Take the green beans out of the oil and drain on a paper towel lined plate.
- Then place the beans on a wire rack over a baking sheet and sprinkle with more salt to taste.
- Repeat with remaining green beans and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT FRIED GREEN BEANS:
We use a lager in this recipe, we just like it because of the flavor, but you can use any of your favorite beers.
Some of our favorite lagers that we have used include: Budweiser, Coors, Busch Lite, Miller Genuine Draft and PBR.
Just use what you have on hand, if you use a darker beer the flavor will be more potent so I don’t recommend using a dark beer.
There are a variety of dipping sauces that you can use for this recipe, our go-to is ranch.
If you want to switch it up a little more you can use honey mustard, aioli, sweet chili sauce, a spicier ranch, etc. Use what you like and think compliments the green beans.
I do not recommend using frozen green beans for this recipe. There is too much water content in them, even with defrosting and patting dry.
I highly recommend always using fresh green beans with the ends trimmed for this.
This will be a thinner batter, do not be worried about that, it is normal. These are not coated fully. They are coated enough to have a more tempura style coating so its not thick, but still has that nice crunch and flavor.
