WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- So much better than store bought.
- Perfect to serve at holidays but simple enough for an everyday dinner.
- Easy to double to make more.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT BOTTOM)
Warm water
Granulated sugar
Active dry yeast
Unsalted butter
Warm whole milk
Egg
Fine sea salt
All-purpose flour
Salted butter

HOW TO MAKE CRESCENT ROLLS, STEP BY STEP:
- In a small bowl add the water, 1 teaspoon of the sugar, and the yeast. Whisk to combine and let it sit for 5 minutes until the yeast is bubbly.
- In the body of a stand mixer with the hook attachment, add the remaining sugar, ½ cup of the butter cut into tablespoons, milk, egg, and salt, stir to combine.
- Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
- Next, add 3 cups of the flour, and stir into the other ingredients then mix on medium speed until the dough starts to clean the sides of the bowl. If the dough seems too sticky, add up to 1 more cup of flour, 1 tablespoon at a time until the dough cleans the sides of the bowl.
- Knead the dough on medium-high speed for 7 minutes, until a soft, smooth dough is formed.
- Spray a large bowl with non-stick cooking spray, then add the dough and roll it around inside the bowl so it is covered with the spray.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it double in size in a warm, dry place. Roughly 60-90 minutes.
- Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper, set aside.
- Once doubled, punch down the dough to release the air bubbles.
- Once dough has risen, divide the dough into 2 even balls. Roll one ball at a time out into a 12-inch circle.
- Using a pizza cutter, cut into 12 even wedges or triangles.
- With the remaining ¼ cup of butter, spread a little bit of it onto each wedge.
- Starting at the larger end of the triangle, tightly roll into a crescent shape.
- Place the rolls onto the prepared sheet pan and repeat with the remaining dough ball.
- Cover with a clean kitchen towel and allow to double again for roughly 60-90 minutes.
- While rising, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Place the rolls in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and puffed up.
- Remove from the oven and immediately brush with the melted butter and serve.

CAN I HALVE THE RECIPE?
Yes, this recipe makes quite a bit of Crescent Rolls- 24 in fact! If you need less, you can halve the recipe to make 12 rolls.
Additionally, if you need more for a gathering, you can double the recipe, just make sure you have another sheet pan to bake them on.
CAN I ADD ANYTHING TO THESE?
Oh my goodness, yes! And they’ll be so delicious, I have so many options that you can make, to make cheesy Crescent Rolls simply add some shredded cheese (I suggest cheddar) right into the dough.
Want a bit of spice? Add in some chopped up jalapenos, or you can use canned jalapenos as well. This is a great addition for those spice lovers out there.
Lastly, garlic – one of my favorites. You can make these into garlic rolls.
Add 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, and a 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning into the melted butter so you can flavor them appropriately at the end when you brush on the butter.
HOW LONG DO I NEED TO LET THESE RISE?
The only downside about homemade bread is the process, but once you get used to working with yeast, you’ll learn to love it. These need to rise for a total of 3 hours.
Which makes them the perfect candidate for a make ahead dish to bring to your gatherings!
CAN I USE THESE IN OTHER RECIPES?
Yes, one thing we love to do is slice them in half and make them into sandwiches.
We like to also turn these into a breakfast treat by brushing with butter and sprinkling with some cinnamon and sugar.

HOW TO STORE:
Store these rolls in an airtight container or ziptop bag on the countertop where they will for up to 3 days. Keep them longer, in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
You can freeze these to have on hand for later. To do that, place in a freezer container or bag and they’ll freeze well for up to 3 months.
To defrost, thaw in the refrigerator overnight and rewarm in the oven until heated through.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You can use these as a side item to your dinner or main meal, but you can also slice them in half lengthwise and make smaller sandwiches out of them.
- You can make these ahead of time, making them perfect for holiday parties or gatherings.
- This is a great base recipe to use and then you can customize it, see above for ideas.
- If you don’t need 24 rolls, you can either freeze some for later, or just cut the recipe in half to make 12.
- Don’t skip out on the melted butter topping. It really helps these rolls stand out.
- These can be frozen, see above on how to do that.
- Make sure you use active dry yeast for this recipe.
