WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- Minimal ingredients makes this come together super easy.
- You can use any of your favorite chocolates.
- With only 10 minutes of cook time it’s ready fast!
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT BOTTOM):
Chocolate chips
Unsalted butter, thinly sliced
Marshmallows
Graham crackers
Strawberries, optional
HOW TO MAKE S’MORES DIP, STEP BY STEP:
- Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF. Add the chocolate chips to the bottom of a 12-inch cast-iron skillet or baking dish that is broiler safe.
- Add the thinly sliced butter on top.
- Place the skillet into the oven for 3-4 minutes until the chocolate starts to melt. The chips will appear glossy now instead of matte.
- Stir the chocolate together with a spoon, if the chips are not completely melted that is okay.
- Add the marshmallows on top of the melted chocolate. I like to add them cut side up for a pretty presentation.
- Place the dish back into the oven for 3-4 minutes, until the marshmallows begin to soften and droop, they will turn slightly golden. At this point, it is ready to eat if you like not as toasted marshmallows. If you like more toasted marshmallows, take the dish or skillet out of the oven. Heat the broiler on high, keep the oven rack in the middle of the oven position. Once heated, place the skillet back in the oven and broil just until the marshmallows reach your desired toastiness.
WHAT KIND OF CHOCOLATE SHOULD I USE?
For this S’mores Dip Recipe we use semi-sweet chocolate chips. You can use any flavor chocolate chips you like such as milk or dark chocolate.
You can also use chopped up chocolate baking bars or even Hershey’s bars if you want that real s’mores flavor! Just make sure you use as much as is called for in the recipe.
CAN I USE MINI MARSHMALLOWS?
If mini marshmallows are all you have, you can absolutely use them. Just dump them over the chocolate and place in the oven. They may melt quicker than larger marshmallows so keep an eye on that.
We have used them in a pinch, but we prefer the large marshmallows because it creates this nice thick layer of gooey marshmallow goodness that we can’t resist.
WHAT CAN I SERVE THIS DIP WITH?
We love to use various dippers for this recipe, some of our favorites include:
- Graham crackers
- Strawberries
- Vanilla wafers
- Pretzels
- Cookies
Anything that you think would be great dipped in this delicious chocolate and marshmallow combination would be perfect.
HOW DONE SHOULD MY MARSHMALLOWS BE?
This is absolutely a personal preference, I like a little char to my marshmallows on my regular s’mores so that is what we did with this recipe.
You can bake or choose to broil to your preferred doneness. It does not have to be golden on top if you do not want it to be, you just want to make sure that the marshmallows are melted and gooey.
HOW TO STORE:
I do not recommend storing this recipe. If you are going to make S’mores Dip it should be made when it is desired to be eaten. If it is chilled or stored the chocolate and the marshmallows will both get hard.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- A large cast iron skillet works amazing for this recipe as it retains heat.
- You can use any flavor of chocolate chips or chocolate bars that you like, see above for some recommendations.
- Mini marshmallows can be used in a pinch.
- If you like your marshmallows toasted like I do I highly recommend placing them under the broiler.
- The addition of the butter helps to keep the chocolate silky smooth and not harden up back up as fast.
- Higher quality chocolate is recommended as it melts easier.
- You can serve this with any of your favorite dippers, see some options above.
