CAN I USE FRESHLY COOKED RICE?
It is best to use day-old rice because it’s drier and fries better without becoming mushy.
If you only have fresh rice, spread it on a tray and chill it in the refrigerator or freezer for 20-30 minutes to dry it out.
WHAT OTHER RICE CAN I USE BESIDES JASMINE?
Long-grain white rice, basmati, or even brown rice can work with this recipe.
Avoid short-grain rice as it’s stickier and can clump more easily.
CAN I ADD OTHER VEGETABLES?
You sure can! Try adding bell peppers, corn, green beans, or even baby spinach.
Just keep the moisture content in mind to avoid soggy rice.
DO I HAVE TO USE THE SESAME OIL?
It adds a great nutty aroma and flavor, but it isn’t essential. If you don’t have it, skip it or add a dash of toasted sesame seeds instead.
HOW TO STORE:
This can be stored in an airtight container where it will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
To reheat, place in the microwave until heated through.
I do not recommend freezing this recipe because freezing can cause deterioration of the rice texture.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Other vegetables can be used, see above on some ideas.
- We do not recommend freezing this recipe.
- Other meats can be used like chicken, sausage or you can make it without meat as well.
- This can be made spicy by adding chili flakes, sriracha, or a diced fresh chili when cooking the garlic and onion, or drizzle hot sauce on top before serving.
