Shreds of fluffy hashbrowns all smothered in a creamy cheesy sauce, itโs absolutely amazing and something that we would get each time that we would go there, for breakfast or dinner.
Every bite is cheesy, filling, and bursting with flavor. Itโs the epitome of comfort food. Each forkful is one of those stick to your ribs kinds of bites. Itโs hearty and super simple to make.
Ever since I made this copycat version, my family has been requesting it non-stop, and it is just too easy, so I can never say no. Itโs always a hit and I love how simple it is to whip up.
Plus, this recipe makes a ton, which is great for holidays when company is over, or for when we want leftovers for the upcoming week. This makes a great side dish to any meal.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT BOTTOM)
Shredded frozen hashbrowns
Shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Sour cream
Cream of chicken soup
Salted butter
Finely chopped onion
Garlic powder
Onion powder
Black pepper
HOW TO MAKE CRACKER BARREL HASH BROWN CASSEROLE, STEP BY STEP:
- Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF. Spray a 9ร13 baking dish with cooking spray, and set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix the hashbrowns, 2 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, cream of chicken soup, butter, onion, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper until smooth and combined.
- Add the mixture to the prepared baking dish and smooth out the top.
- Top with the remaining cheddar cheese.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until bubbly and the cheese is melted. Serve immediately.
WHY ARE MY HASHBROWNS WATERY?
Once you have thawed your hashbrowns, if you notice theyโre still water, just pat them dry using a paper towel.
CAN I ADD ANYTHING TO THIS CASSEROLE?
This casserole is a meal in itself, but if you want to make it even heartier you can add some other additions:
- Shredded cooked chicken
- Breakfast sausage
- Bacon
- Diced ham
- Cooked vegetables
WHAT OTHER CHEESE CAN I USE?
I love this casserole just how it is. Itโs super creamy and delicious, but if you want try something else, try shredded pepper jack, shredded Colby or shredded Monterey Jack.
HOW TO STORE:
Any leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator where they will keep for up to 5 days.
If you want to keep this Hashbrown Casserole for longer, you can freeze it. To do that cool your casserole and then place in a freezer container where it will keep for up to 3 months.
To defrost, remove to the refrigerator overnight until thawed. You can microwave leftovers or reheat them in the baking dish covered with foil so they donโt dry out.
