HOW TO MAKE HALLOWEEN PEANUT BUTTER BROWNIES, STEP BY STEP:
- Preheat the oven to 350 F and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper. This will make removing the brownies from the pan much easier.
- In a large mixing bowl, prepare the brownie mix as per box instructions and make sure not to overmix.
- Pour the brownie batter into the parchment lined baking pan and spread evenly, making sure to fill the corners.
- Then place in the oven and bake as per box instructions, about 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted 1 inch from the edge comes out clean. When finished, let cool on a wire rack completely before frosting and decorating.
- For the ganache: Heat the heavy whipping cream in the microwave or stovetop just until it starts to bubble. Then divide it and pour a little into each bowl of melting wafers. Let it sit for about 1 minute and then stir each one until the wafers are fully melted. If you would like a thinner ganache, add more heavy whipping cream. To thicken it, add more melting wafers. Set aside.
- Once the brownies have cooled, add drops of the different colored ganache on top and alternate the colors.
- You can leave it as is or create swirls and designs to mix the colors up.
- Scatter the Reeseโs chocolates and peanut butter chips on top. Then add eyeballs and orange sanding sugar. Have fun and get creative with your toppings. Enjoy!
WHAT BROWNIE MIX SHOULD I USE?
I used Duncan Hines Chewy Fudge Brownie Mix, but you can use whatever brand you prefer. You can even use a homemade brownie mix and whatever ingredients is necessary for that!
The eggs, oil, etc listed right after the brownie mix in the list are what is called for for this specific mix, so you may need to adjust as your box instructions see fit.
DO I HAVE TO MAKE THE GANACHE?
No, if you’re short on time, use store-bought frosting and call it a day! Yes, the ganache is AMAZING, but if you don’t have time for that, don’t stress out over it.
DO I HAVE TO USE THOSE TOPPINGS?
Nope! These are just the toppings I had on hand and I thought they went well together. You can swap the melting chocolate colors out too and the sanding sugar.
Feel free to add any toppings, drizzles, sauces, sprinkles, whatever you want on top!
CAN I MAKE THESE THICKER?
Absolutely, if you want a thicker brownie you can make these in a 9×9-inch or an 8×8-inch baking pan instead. The baking times will be different so make sure you take that into account.
HOW TO STORE:
Store leftover decorated brownies in an airtight container on the counter for up to 4-5 days. If storing in layers, use parchment paper in between so the decorated tops don’t get ruined.
These brownies can be also be frozen, place in a freezer container where they will keep for up to 3 months.
Do defrost, remove to the refrigerator overnight and then to the countertop to come to room temperature.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Wanna make the brownies even more flavorful? Use chocolate milk or regular milk instead of water when making your brownies. It’s PHENOMENAL!
- You can make thicker brownies by making these in a different-sized pan. I used a 9×13-inch pan, but you can use an 8×8-inch or a 9×9-inch pan if you want thick brownies.
- Feel free to swap out the toppings, you don’t have to use minis either. You can use regular-sized candy bars or even king-sized candy bars all chopped up to toss on the top of these decorated brownies.
- You can always swap out the ganache for frosting if you need something easier to use.
- Want even more peanut butter? Add peanut butter chips or chopped up peanut butter cups to the brownie batter to bake into them.
- Use a sharp knife when cutting them and wipe the knife in between cuts for best clean cut brownies.
- You can find the candy eyes in the baking aisle in most grocery stores, or you can order them online if your store is out. Be careful when handling them as the black parts of the eyes tend to smear easily.
- These can be frozen, see above on how to do that.
Looking for that easy Halloween treat that is super customizable? Then these Peanut Butter Halloween Brownies are exactly what you need.
