Homemade BBQ Sauce

Quick and easy with minimal ingredients, this Homemade BBQ Sauce is a staple that you will want to keep on hand for all the things!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cup ketchup any brand
  • ¾ cup dark brown sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce or ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a medium saucepan, whisk together, then heat over medium heat until boiling.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes or until just starting to reduce and thicken, stirring occasionally. (Should be simmering, not splattering)
  • Allow to cool slightly, then pour into 3 8-ounce containers.
  • Use promptly or cover and refrigerate.
  • To use, brush onto ribs, chicken, pork chops and more before baking, smoking, or grilling.

Notes

  1. Nutritional value has 24 servings, each serving is 1 ounce.
  2. Easily double this recipe to make more or have more on hand for later.
  3. You can freeze this BBQ Sauce, see above on how to do that.
  4. There are numerous ways to use this recipe, see above for some of my favorite ideas.
  5. You can make this hotter by adding some hot sauce or red pepper flakes.
  6. If you want a more smokey flavor, add in 1 teaspoon liquid smoke with all your other ingredients.
  7. Light brown sugar will work if you do not have dark brown sugar.
