- 4 large apples sliced, plus extra for garnish
- 2-3 cinnamon sticks plus extra for garnish
- 1 cup unfiltered apple cider
- ½ cup black or regular spiced rum
- 750 mL bottle of pinot noir or your favorite dry red wine
- ½ cup pure maple syrup
- Lemon wedge for rimming
- Light brown sugar for rimming
Fill a large pitcher with sliced apples and cinnamon sticks.
Pour apple cider, rum, pinot noir, and maple syrup over the apples and cinnamon.
Using a large spoon, stir the sangria in the pitcher until mixed.
Refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight. The cinnamon flavor will really come through after sitting overnight. For me, the more cinnamon flavor, the better!
Before serving, run a wedge of lemon around the rim of your glass and dip it into a shallow plate of light brown sugar.
Allow a minute or so for the brown sugar to set-up on the rim.
Re-stir the sangria to make sure all of the flavors are incorporated and pour into your rimmed glass, over ice.
Garnish with sliced apples and/or cinnamon sticks.
- You can use a black or regular spiced rum in this recipe, we use Kraken Black Spiced Rum.
- We use a mix of apples in this recipe, you can choose to use just one type if you like, we use Gala and Red Delicious but Granny Smith also works well.
- You can make a larger batch to serve at a party just place in a punch bowl.
- Different red wines can be used, see my tips above.
- This needs to chill for a bit before serving so the flavors can marry, the longer it sits the better it gets.
- Remember to get apple cider and not apple juice.
