- 24 ounces ground beef crumbled
- 16 ounces pork sausage crumbled
- 16 ounces processed cheese like Velveeta, cubed
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 2 loaves party cocktail rye bread
- Fresh Italian Parsley chopped, garnish
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large skillet, cook 24 ounces of ground beef and 16 ounces of sausage over medium-high heat until browned. Drain the excess fat.
Reduce the heat to medium and add 16 ounces of cubed cheese, stirring until melted and well combined.
Add the Worcestershire sauce, oregano, onion powder, and garlic salt. Stir until combined.
Lay slices of cocktail rye bread on a baking sheet and spread the meat and cheese mixture evenly over each slice.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10 -15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the bread is slightly crispy.
Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped parsley. Serve warm and enjoy!
- Traditionally this uses cocktail rye or pumpernickel bread but you can slice up a baguette and use that as well.
- To make it a little more spicy add some red pepper flakes to the meat mixture starting with about 1/2 teaspoon.
- You can change up the meats if you want, see above for ideas.
- Velveeta works best, but you can also use American cheese too.
- These can be frozen, see above on how to do that.
- Top with chopped parsley when serving, you could also use green onions.
- This makes a large batch and will serve a crowd.
