- 4 eggs
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 12 ounces evaporated milk
- ½ cup salted butter at room temperature
- 7 Tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 refrigerated pie crust
- Whipped topping optional
- Chocolate shavings optional
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
In a blender, place the eggs, sugar, evaporated milk, butter, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract.
Blend on high for 2 minutes. The mixture will be frothy. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes.
Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan.
Pour the mixture into the pie crust, about ¾ the way full.
Bake for 55-65 minutes. The middle will be slightly shaky but the outside of that will be firm.
Remove from the oven and allow it to completely cool before cutting.
Decorate with whipped topping and chocolate shavings if desired.
- Whipped topping and chocolate shavings are not included in the nutritional value.
- After making this pie multiple times, there is always a little froth that remains on the top of the pie. This gives that slightly golden crust on the top and then the filling is smooth and chocolatey.
- This can be frozen, see above on how to do that.
- If you don't have a blender you can use a food processor.
- Make sure you let the filling sit 5 minutes after blending.
- If you want you can add in some chopped nuts or chocolate chips for some texture.
- You may have leftover filling, that is fine. Make sure that you fill to just 3/4 full.
- Use a store-bought or homemade pie crust.
- Chop your butter into smaller pieces to help it blend better.
