Easy Beef Stir Fry

Ingredients

  • 1 pound flank steak
  • 2 Tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 Tablespoons cooking oil
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup snow peas
  • 1 red bell pepper sliced
  • 1 green onion sliced

Sauce:

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • 3 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 2 Tablespoons sesame seeds toasted

Instructions

  • Cut beef thinly across the grain about ½ inch thick and 2-inches long.
  • Place beef in a freezer bag or medium bowl and stir in 2 Tablespoons of soy sauce and the 2 Tablespoons cornstarch and allow this to marinate at room temperature for at least 30 minutes.
  • Next, prepare the vegetables and set aside.
  • Then make the sauce by whisking together ½ cup soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, and ginger. Set aside.
  • Heat the oil to high heat in a large deep skillet or wok.
  • Add half of the marinated beef to the skillet and fry for 3 minutes. Remove and fry the other half of the marinated beef. Remove from the skillet.
  • Next, add the vegetables (except the green onions) to the skillet and fry for 2 minutes.
  • Add the beef back to the skillet and stir in the sauce and heat until warmed all the way through.
  • Sprinkle the green onions and toasted sesame seeds over top.
  • Serve over noodles or rice if desired.

Notes

  1. If you taste your stir fry and think that it's too salty, add a teaspoon of vinegar to help balance it out. You can also use low sodium soy sauce to help avoid the too salty problem. 
  2. Feel free to add more vegetables or trade some out to suit your tastes, I shared more ideas above. 
  3. You can use white sugar in place of brown sugar.

  5. If you can't find flank steak, there are a few other options you can use instead.  
  6. If you have to cut the meat first, always cut along the grain of the meat, along in the same direction. Don't cut against it.
