Baked Beans with Ground Beef

- 1 pound ground beef 93% lean
- 2.5 ounces cooked bacon cut into pieces
- 45 ounces 3 -15-ounce cans pork and beans, drained
- 1 cup yellow onion chopped
- ½ cup ketchup
- ½ cup BBQ sauce
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 Tablespoons honey
- 1 Tablespoon distilled white vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large cast iron skillet add the ground beef and bacon.
Over medium heat, cook for 5 to 7 minutes or until the juices run clear. Then drain any excess fat.
Add the remaining ingredients to the skillet.
Stir until everything is combined.
Place in the oven and bake uncovered for 45 minutes.
Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
- You can easily double this recipe if you'd like.
- Use other meats, see above for some ideas.
- We like to use pork and beans, but you can switch up your beans to get other flavors.
- Switch up your BBQ sauce to also change the flavor, see above for some options.
- You can use precooked bacon if you'd like.
- Instead of a cast iron skillet you can make these in a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Feel free to add any other ingredients that you think would work well in this recipe such as chopped peppers, cayenne pepper (if you want spicy), etc.
- I do not suggest freezing this recipe.
- Try to use lean ground beef, we like 93%.
