Chocolate Chip Mug Cake

With minimal ingredients and only a few minutes, this Chocolate Chip Mug Cake is the perfect single serving dessert.

Ingredients

  • 6 Tablespoons yellow cake mix
  • 1 Tablespoon water
  • 2 Tablespoons applesauce
  • 2 Tablespoons milk chocolate chips
  • Optional garnishes: whipped cream frosting, sprinkles, chocolate syrup or ice cream

Instructions

  • Spray the inside of an 8-ounce microwave safe mug with non-stick cooking spray. Add the cake mix, water and, applesauce.
  • Stir the ingredients together until smooth.
  • Add in your chocolate chips and stir until incorporated. The add a few more chocolate chips to the top.
  • Place in the microwave and cook at full power for 1 minute.
  • Remove from the microwave and allow the cake to cool slightly
  • Garnish with whip cream, frosting, sprinkles, chocolate syrup or ice cream if desired and serve.

Notes

  1. We have not tried making this in the oven, so we are not sure how it would turn out.
  2. You can add so many mix-ins to your batter, see above for some ideas.
  3. Use any of your favorite chocolate chips for this recipe.
  4. You can use sweetened or unsweetened applesauce.
  5. If you do not have applesauce you can replace it with 1 Tablespoon oil and 2 Tablespoons of water.
  6. This can be garnished with lots of things including ice cream, chocolate drizzle, sprinkles, whipped cream, etc.
  7. Make sure you are using at least an 8-ounce mug that is microwave safe.
  8. It is normal for the cake to rise then deflate slightly.
