Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water divided
  • 4 ¼ cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon fine salt

For the Topping:

  • 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

Instructions

  • In a small mixing bowl, combine ¼ cup of the warm water and the yeast. Whisk together and let the mixture stand for about 5 minutes or until it becomes foamy.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, add the flour, butter, sugar, salt, remaining water and the yeast mixture. Mix on medium speed until a dough forms. It will be slightly sticky but should clear the sides of the bowl.
  • Move the dough from the bowl onto a floured surface and knead by hand until the dough is smooth and soft.
  • Roll the dough into a log shape and cut into 16 equal pieces.
  • Using your hands, roll the dough into a breadstick shape approximately 6-7 inches long. Place on a lined baking sheet 2 inches apart. Cover with a towel or cloth and let rise in a warm place until the breadsticks double in size.
  • While your dough is rising, preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Melt your butter in a small bowl and then brush the risen breadsticks with the melted butter. Then, sprinkle each one with a pinch of sea salt garlic powder, and oregano.
  • Bake for 13-15 minutes or until the breadsticks are golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and enjoy.

Notes

  1. Make sure you are using active dry yeast.
  2. These are great with so many things, to see what to serve these with see above on some of my ideas.
  3. The dough and the breadsticks can be frozen, see above on how to do that.
  4. If you want a more garlic flavor, brush with butter and sprinkle with seasonings again after they come out of the oven.
  5. Make sure that your water is between 105-110 degrees F.
  6. If you want you can add a little parmesan cheese to the tops of these for a fun twist on flavor.
  7. If you want a crispier breadstick, bake for about 3-4 minutes longer.
