Preheat a deep fryer or a heavy bottom skillet with about 4 inches of cooking oil to 375 degrees F.
Add the green beans to a large bowl and toss with the cornstarch. Tossing in the cornstarch will help the batter stick to the beans while cooking.
To make the batter, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
Whisk in the beer and egg, until smooth.
Shake off any excess cornstarch and then add the green beans to the bowl with the batter, coat the green beans in the batter.
Letting the excess batter drip off into the bowl, add the green beans to the hot oil one at a time. If using a deep fryer, shake the basket as you add them, so they don’t stick together. If using a skillet, stir well to make sure they are separated. Make sure to fry in batches to not overcrowd the pan or deep fryer
Fry for 4-5 minutes until golden brown. Occasionally stirring or shaking, so the beans brown evenly on all sides.
Take the green beans out of the oil and drain on a paper towel lined plate.
Then place the beans on a wire rack over a baking sheet and sprinkle with more salt to taste.
Repeat with remaining green beans and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
