Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup small-diced sweet onion
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar packed
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 burger buns to serve
  • Dill pickle chips to serve optional

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and onions. Break up the ground beef into crumbles and stir occasionally for about 10 minutes until the onions are softened and there is no pink left in the meat. Drain the oil.
  • Into the pan add the beef stock, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • Stir everything to combine and then bring to a simmer, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 10-15 minutes until most of the liquid is absorbed.
  • Serve immediately on burger buns with pickle chips and other toppings if desired.

Notes

  • We like to use a leaner ground beef for this recipe so use at least 80/20.
  • Make sure that you drain any grease from the pan.
  • You can use other meats for this such as ground chicken, turkey or pork.
  • These can be frozen, see above on how to do that.
  • Add any additional toppings that you'd like, see above for some ideas.
  • Easily double this recipe to serve more people.
