- 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
- 1 Tablespoon ketchup
- 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tablespoon light brown sugar packed
- ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¾ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 4 slices American cheese
- Burger buns and toppings of your choice
In a large bowl, add the ground beef, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Mix to combine fully making sure not to over mix.
Portion the burger mixture into four even portions.
Form into patties make a small indent in the center or each of the burgers using your thumb, This helps the burgers from not getting too plump in the center while grilling.
Preheat the grill over high heat for 10 minutes. Oil the grates lightly and place the burger patties on the grill.
Cook for about 5 minutes per side, making sure to only flip once. Cook the burgers to your desired temperature. We prefer our burgers medium-well, which will be done when the internal temperature reaches 150 degrees F.
A few minutes before the burgers are done, add a slice of cheese to the top of each burger and close the top of the grill, letting the cheese melt.
Once the cheese is melted and the burgers are done to your liking, serve them on your buns of choice and top with your favorite toppings.
- NUTRITIONAL VALUE DOES NOT INCLUDE THE BUNS OR TOPPINGS.
- The brown sugar in this cheeseburger recipe really adds that flavor that I think makes it the best.
- You can easily double this recipe to serve more people.
- Switch up your cheese, see some of my ideas above.
- You can cook these to your desired doneness, although the USDA recommends the internal temperature to be at least 16o. You can see above for a doneness guide.
- Use as many or as little toppings as you like, see above for some suggestions.
- Use your favorite kind of bun, we love sesame seed buns.
- Make sure to not over mix the burger mixture, this could end up making the burgers chewy.
- Always use an internal thermometer to check the doneness of your burgers.
