Peppermint Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk or 1 ½ cup for non-alcoholic
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup peppermint schnapps optional
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • ½-1 teaspoon peppermint extract if using schnapps use ¼-½ teaspoon and adjust to taste
  • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate bar finely chopped
  • Marshmallows optional

Instructions

  • Combine milk, heavy cream, peppermint schnapps, and sugar in a medium saucepan and bring to a light simmer over medium heat.
  • Meanwhile, melt the chocolate in the microwave on 30-second intervals, stirring between each one, just until melted.
  • Whisk the melted chocolate into the milk mixture in the saucepan off the heat.
  • Serve with whipped cream or marshmallows.

Notes

  1. Make sure that you separately melt your chocolate before adding it to your milk mixture.
  2. Start low on your peppermint extract and work your way up same with your alcohol.
  3. This can easily be doubled to serve a crowd or even larger, you can keep it warm in a slow cooker.
  4. Make sure to use a chocolate baking bar for this, this makes the best hot chocolate!
