French Toast Waffle Sticks

A mash-up between french toast and waffles, you really can't go wrong with these French Toast Waffle Sticks! Minimal ingredients and time make this the perfect breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup whole milk or your favorite kind
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 slices thick-cut brioche bread about ½ inch thick
  • Powdered sugar for dusting optional
  • Maple syrup for dipping optional
  • Cooking Spray

Instructions

  • Preheat your waffle maker to medium heat.
  • In a shallow bowl that will fit your bread, lightly beat the egg.
  • Whisk in the milk, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until combined.
  • Lightly spray the waffle iron. Dip the bread into the egg mixture on both sides, do not let it soak up too much, we are looking for a light yet even coating.
  • Place the piece of bread into the waffle maker and close the lid.
  • Cook for 3-5 minutes until golden brown and the bread starts to crisp.
  • Place the french toast on a wire rack over a sheet tray while you cook the rest of the slices, this will prevent the bread from getting soggy and making sure it is crisp.
  • Once all the bread is done, cut into sticks.
  • Serve with a dusting powdered sugar and maple syrup for dipping.

Notes

  • Syrup and powdered sugar are not included in the nutritional value.
  • Thick cut bread works best for these.
  • Switch up your bread flavor for different types of Waffle Sticks.
  • These can be frozen, see my tips above.
  • If you don't have a waffle maker you can use a grill pan, panini press or a George Forman.
  • Double the batch if you want to serve a larger crowd.
  • Serve with your favorite toppings or dipping sauces.
