  • 1 cup cake flour sifted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Chocolate Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbs instant coffee granules
  • 1 1/4 cup boiling water



  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Spray a 6-quart casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray, set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl combine the cake flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt.
  • Add the milk, butter and vanilla and stir to combine. Pour into the pan and spread evenly.

Chocolate Sauce:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder.
  • Heat the water until it’s boiling in the microwave or on the stovetop, then add the instant coffee and stir to combine. Pour over the sugar mixture in bowl and whisk combine.
  • Pour chocolate sauce over the top of the cake. Do NOT stir into the cake.
  • Place the cake in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes if you want to have a mores runny pudding sauce on the bottom and a cake top.
  • If you prefer, bake for 30 minutes and it will be nice and gooey, but a little more cake like.
  • Serve with ice cream or whipped topping if desired.
