Irish Coffee Recipe

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces very hot water
  • 12 ounces strong brewed coffee
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons light brown sugar packed
  • 2 ounces Irish whiskey
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream soft peaks
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Add hot water to two large coffee mugs. Let it sit while you brew your coffee.
  • Pour the hot water out. Add 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of brown sugar to each mug.
  • Evenly pour the hot brewed coffee into the mugs.
  • Stir to combine and melt the sugars.
  • Add 1 ounce of whiskey to each mug. Stir to combine.
  • In bowl add your whipped cream and beat until soft peaks form.
  • Top with soft whipped cream. Add chocolate shaving on top for garnish, optional.

Notes

  1. To get the heavy cream to stay on top lightly spoon it or pour it over the back of the spoon.
  2. Serve this topped with whipped cream or mixed in, either way is fine.
  3. Jameson is used in this recipe but you can use any other Irish whiskey, see my tips on brands above.
  4. This is very lightly sweetened. Add more sugar to taste, you can also sweeten the cream with powdered sugar. 
  5. Some people add only brown sugar which will add a more caramelized flavor, if you would like that then up your brown sugar to 4 teaspoons.
  6. You can double this recipe or cut it in half to serve more or less people.
