RumChata Hot Chocolate

Enjoy a hot glass of this RumChata Hot Chocolate, spiced, creamy, with a warm, cinnamon and vanilla twist. Super easy, tasty and perfect for those cold nights.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • teaspoon fine sea salt optional
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 ounces RumChata

Instructions

  • Add the milk, cream, chocolate chips, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt to a medium-sized saucepot. Stir to combine.
  • Place over medium heat, constantly stirring, so nothing burns on the bottom. Cook until well combined and the chocolate has melted about 5 minutes. Bring to a simmer for 12-14 minutes.
  • Take off the heat and stir in the vanilla.
  • Place 2 ounces of RumChata into each mug.
  • Top with the hot chocolate and add the garnishes of your choice, and serve immediately.

Notes

  1. Make this drink ahead for parties or gatherings, then warm it up when ready to serve. 
  2. You can double or triple this recipe to make a large batch if serving a crowd. 
  3. Make the kids some of the base recipe to have kid-friendly hot cocoa before adding in the RumChata.

  5. Want more alcohol in this recipe? Add a shot of fireball, spiced rum, or vodka alongside the RumChata when you pour it in.
