RumChata Hot Chocolate

- 1 ½ cups whole milk
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ⅓ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- ⅛ teaspoon fine sea salt optional
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 ounces RumChata
Add the milk, cream, chocolate chips, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt to a medium-sized saucepot. Stir to combine.
Place over medium heat, constantly stirring, so nothing burns on the bottom. Cook until well combined and the chocolate has melted about 5 minutes. Bring to a simmer for 12-14 minutes.
Take off the heat and stir in the vanilla.
Place 2 ounces of RumChata into each mug.
Top with the hot chocolate and add the garnishes of your choice, and serve immediately.
- Make this drink ahead for parties or gatherings, then warm it up when ready to serve.
- You can double or triple this recipe to make a large batch if serving a crowd.
- Make the kids some of the base recipe to have kid-friendly hot cocoa before adding in the RumChata.
