- 1 cup whole milk or 1 ½ cup for non-alcoholic
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup peppermint schnapps optional
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- ½-1 teaspoon peppermint extract if using schnapps use ¼-½ teaspoon and adjust to taste
- 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate bar finely chopped
- Marshmallows optional
Combine milk, heavy cream, peppermint schnapps, and sugar in a medium saucepan and bring to a light simmer over medium heat.
Meanwhile, melt the chocolate in the microwave on 30-second intervals, stirring between each one, just until melted.
Whisk the melted chocolate into the milk mixture in the saucepan off the heat.
Serve with whipped cream or marshmallows.
- Make sure that you separately melt your chocolate before adding it to your milk mixture.
- Start low on your peppermint extract and work your way up same with your alcohol.
- This can easily be doubled to serve a crowd or even larger, you can keep it warm in a slow cooker.
- Make sure to use a chocolate baking bar for this, this makes the best hot chocolate!
