Super easy and potluck favorite, this Pea Salad with Bacon has simple ingredients but is bursting with flavor!

Since spring is here and summer is fast approaching, I have to share my favorite Pea Salad Recipe with you.
This is one that we have been making of many many years and our secret to it is adding a little bacon grease into the dressing.
Seriously we love that bacon flavor so it is only obviously to make it just a little more potent for this salad!
I love going to potlucks, parties, etc and bringing a side dish is one thing that I’m always tasked with doing and this Pea Salad with Bacon is one of our go-to ones.
I love simple recipes and that is exactly what this one is, so it really doesn’t take much effort and can be made right before serving or you can chill it until you are ready.

Mayonnaise
Sour cream
Reserved bacon grease
Lemon juice
Granulated sugar
Garlic powder
Onion powder
Kosher salt
Black pepper
Frozen peas
Colby jack cheese
Green onions
Bacon
HOW TO MAKE PEA SALAD WITH BACON, STEP BY STEP:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, bacon grease, lemon juice, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add the peas, cheese, scallions, and cooked bacon to the bowl. If you prefer to keep the bacon as a garnish, set it aside until serving.
- Stir everything together well, then serve or chill until ready to serve.
CAN I ADD ANY OTHER VEGETABLES TO THIS SALAD?
Yes, other vegetables that would be good red onion, bell peppers, broccoli, and cauliflower.
For extra crunch, add some diced water chestnuts.
DO I HAVE TO USE THE BACON GREASE?
No, this is completely optional we do it because it really enhances that bacon flavor.
If you don’t want to use the bacon grease, you can add more mayo or sour cream.
WHAT OTHER CHEESE’S CAN I USE?
Other cheese that would be good, swiss, cheddar, pepper jack, or Monterey jack.
Make sure that you are using block cheese for this recipe.
DO I NEED TO CHILL THIS BEFORE SERVING?
No, this is ready to serve once you mix everything together.
You can however chill it until you are ready to serve. It will solidify more so make sure you give it a good stir before serving.
HOW TO STORE:
This can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator where it will keep for up to 5 days.
I do not recommend freezing this recipe.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- You can add diced ham to this for a ham and bacon combination.
- You do not have to use the bacon grease, see above.
- Other cheese’s can be used, just make sure they are a block cheese.
- Easily double this recipe to serve more or to save for later.
- If you let this chill before serving, give it a good stir first.

Pea Salad with Bacon
Ingredients
For the dressing:
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 2 Tablespoons sour cream
- 2 Tablespoons reserved bacon grease
- 1 Tablespoon lemon juice fresh squeezed
- 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
- ยฝ teaspoon garlic powder
- ยฝ teaspoon onion powder
- ยฝ teaspoon kosher salt
- ยฝ teaspoon black pepper
For the salad:
- 36 ounces frozen peas thawed
- 8 ounces colby jack cheese small diced
- 2 green onions thinly sliced
- 6 ounces bacon small diced, cooked crispy
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, bacon grease, lemon juice, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add the peas, cheese, scallions, and cooked bacon to the bowl. If you prefer to keep the bacon as a garnish, set it aside until serving.
