- Separate ground beef into 6 equal sections, press onto tortilla in a single layer, covering completely, repeat with remaining tortillas. Salt and pepper the top and set aside.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat, cook meat side down for 4 minutes pressing down with spatula starting in the middle and working outward. Flip over and then top each with a cheese slice and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes or until cheese is melting and tortilla is crisp.
- While tacos are cooking, make sauce, add sauce ingredients to a small mixing bowl and whisk until combined.
- Remove tacos from heat, top with lettuce, pickles, onions, then a drizzle of sauce and serve.
WHAT SIZE TORTILLAS SHOULD I USE?
We use 6-inch tortillas for this recipe, you can also see them labeled in stores as small or fajita sized.
If you want to go a little bigger you can use 8-inch tortillas but they will not make as much but you will have larger portions.
CAN I USE ANOTHER TYPE OF CHEESE?
Absolutely, while american is an absolute go-to for this recipe for us, you can definitely try other cheese.
Some other good options include: Cheddar, Muenster, Pepper Jack, Colby Jack, White Cheddar, etc.
Whatever you think would taste great with these, I say go for it and give it a try!
DO I HAVE TO MAKE MY OWN SAUCE?
While this sauce is super easy to make, you do not have to make if you do not want to.
You can replace the sauce with Thousand Island Dressing instead.
WHAT OTHER SUBSTITUTIONS CAN I MAKE?
If you want to switch up your Smash Burger Tacos, no worries there are plenty of substitutions that you can make!
- Meat: ground turkey, ground chicken, beyond meat, chorizo, etc.
- Toppings: jalapenos, avocado, tomatoes, olives, etc.
- Cheese: listed above for the options.
- Tortillas: whole wheat, low carb.
- Sauce: ketchup, mustard, honey mustard, chick-fil-a sauce, etc.
If you can think of other things that you want to add to doctor it up to make it your own, go for it!
