With simple ingredients and a homemade nacho cheese sauce these Air Fryer Pretzel Dogs are an easy dinner time recipe that is flavorful, unique and super tasty.
Have you ever had a pretzel dog? Either from the freezer section of your grocery store, the pretzel place at the mall or the way we usually get them here from the Schwan’s man.
I have been in love with pretzel dogs since I was a kid, my mom would always order then from that drive up frozen food truck that would come every other week.
Pretzel Dogs were always one of the choices that she would pick and she still does it to this day because my kids are absolutely obsessed with the, but you can also make them at home.
These Air Fryer Pretzel Dogs are SUPER easy to make with just a handful of ingredients that you can get at your local grocer with no issues.
We make these at least once a month, and we love utilizing our air fryer whenever we can, my kids use it more than I do! That’s how much they love it, so obviously I had to make these for the air fryer.
They are a fun and tasty lunch or dinner recipe that everyone loves. Plus we included a tasty nacho cheese dip that works super well with these, because the more cheese the better!
Some of my favorite hot dog type recipes we have on our site include: Loaded Hot Dogs, Chili Dogs and Crescent Dogs.

CAN I USE MY OWN HOMEMADE PIZZA DOUGH?
Absolutely, we use refrigerated dough because we want this to be a faster dinner meal that we can get on the table quicker, but if you prefer to use a homemade dough, that is perfectly fine.
IS THE NACHO CHEESE SAUCE NECESSARY?
No this is completely optional, you could just keep this recipe and use it for other things as well. We like the cheese with the pretzel dogs but I also am accustomed to dipping mine in ketchup as well.
So if you do not want to make the nacho cheese sauce then you absolutely do not have to.
WHAT KIND OF HOT DOGS ARE THE BEST?
Essentially any hot dogs will do for this recipe. The thicker and sturdier they are the better, but use what you have on hand. You can also use fully cooked bratwursts for this recipe as well.
WHAT KIND OF CHEESE SHOULD I USE?
For the pretzel dogs we use cheese sticks, we find them at Walmart alongside the string cheese. You can also use block cheese for this as well.
HOW TO STORE:
These can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container where they will keep for up to 3-4 days.
To reheat we just like to throw them in the oven at 350 degrees F for 3-5 minutes, or you can microwave until heated through.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- Use your favorite hot dogs, sausage or bratwurst for these.
- You can use homemade pizza dough if you’d like.
- Switch up your cheese to see what flavor that you like best.
- The nacho cheese sauce is not necessary, but is a great dipping sauce. You can also use it for other various recipes.
- Double this recipe to make more for a larger crowd.
