Filled with ham and cheese, this Air Fryer Chicken Cordon Bleu is a tasty, crispy dinnertime meal that is absolutely mouthwatering.

Who doesn’t love their air fryer? I know that it has quickly became one of our most used kitchen appliances.
My kids would rather take to the air fryer than the oven or microwave any day. Things just seem to turn out more crispy and delectable.
This Air Fryer Chicken Cordon Bleu is a favorite of mine. Chicken that is stuffed with cheese and ham? How can you say no to that.
I’m a huge chicken person and this recipe just takes it over the top, and it is really fairly simple as well.
It makes a great lunch or dinnertime meal that you can serve with a variety of your favorite side dishes.
If you’ve been looking for a new recipe to put your air fryer to use, then you have to make this Chicken Cordon Bleu.

WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS:
- Simple and easy to find ingredients help this come together quickly.
- You can double this recipe to serve more people.
- The flavors and texture all work together so well.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (FULL RECIPE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST):
Salt
Black pepper
Garlic powder
Onion powder
Chicken breasts
Deli ham
Swiss cheese
Eggs
Italian panko breadcrumbs
Olive oil cooking spray
HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER CHICKEN CORDON BLEU, STEP BY STEP:
- In a shallow bowl, combine the salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder.
- Cut each chicken breast in half lengthwise.
- Place each chicken cutlet between two sheets of plastic wrap or parchment paper. Using a meat mallet or rolling pin, flatten the chicken to about 1/2-inch thick.
- Season each flattened chicken breast evenly with the half of the seasoning mix, then place 2 slices of ham and 2 slices of cheese on each breast.
- Carefully roll up each chicken breast, using the plastic wrap to help keep it tight. Wrap it completely in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes to help the rolls hold their shape.
- In a shallow bowl, beat the eggs and in another bowl, mix the panko crumbs with the remaining seasoning mix.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees F.
- Remove the raw chicken from the plastic wrap and dip each roll first in the egg wash, then coat them evenly with the seasoned panko breadcrumb mixture.
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and place the breaded chicken rolls in a single layer in the basket, seam-side down, leaving some space between each roll.
- Cook your chicken for 25-30 minutes, checking halfway through cooking; if the top is golden brown, carefully flip the rolls. If not, continue cooking and check every 5 minutes.
- Use an instant-read thermometer to check if the internal temperature of the chicken has reached 165 degrees F, the exterior should be golden brown and crispy.
- Let the chicken rest for 2-3 minutes before slicing on a cutting board and serving. This helps the juices redistribute and makes for easier slicing.
CAN I MAKE THIS AHEAD OF TIME?
Yes, you can prepare the rolls up to a day in advance and keep them refrigerated before cooking.
The refrigeration really helps the chicken keep its shape and not unroll when cooking.
HOW DO I PREVENT THE CHEESE FROM OOZING OUT?
Make sure to seal the edges of the chicken well and consider using sliced rather than shredded cheese.
Sliced cheese is always best for this as it is contained in one spot. You will have some oozing most likely but getting that good seal and coating on is really essential.
CAN I USE ANOTHER TYPE OF CHEESE?
While Swiss is what is normally used for Chicken Cordon Bleu you can switch it up if you would like.
Some other cheese’s that would be good include: Parmesan, Gruyรจre, Mozzarella. Those are some that we have tried and enjoyed.
WHAT CAN I SERVE WITH THIS AIR FRYER CHICKEN CORDON BLEU?
There are so many delicious side dishes that you can serve alongside this. Some of my favorites include:
HOW TO STORE:
These can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator where they will keep for up to 3-4 days.
You can also freeze these, wrap in plastic wrap, then foil and in a freezer container and they will keep for up to 3 months.
To defrost, remove from the freezer to the refrigerator until thawed. To reheat, you can heat in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 5-7 minutes or in the oven at the same temperature for 15-20 minutes.
TIPS AND TRICKS:
- If you want extra flavor you can marinate the chicken before continuing on with the recipe.
- These can be frozen, see above on how to do that.
- Switch up the cheese, see some ideas above.
- Make sure that you refrigerate these before cooking, this helps them hold their shape.
- For a spicy kick, add some cayenne pepper or smoked paprika to the breadcrumb mixture.
