Full of meat, potatoes, veggies and cheese this Tater Tot Hotdish is a quick easy dinnertime favorite the whole family will enjoy.
Ok you guys…you know I’m from Minnesota. And here…the word casserole is foreign to us. I mean I don’t use it at all. It sounds so weird coming out of my mouth! Hotdish is our term for “casserole” around these here parts and I know some people will look at me with confusion.
The term hotdish actually means a type of “casserole” that usually contains a starch, a meat, a vegetable and canned soup. Doesn’t that just sound inviting? Ha, probably not, but trust me it is comfort food at its best.
All us Minnesotans probably make our Tater Tot Hotdish a little different because there are various methods used. I like to use hamburger, green beans, corn, cream of mushroom soup, cheese and tater tots. Seriously so simple!!
My husband always makes fun of me because I put my tots in such intricate lines. He’s the type of person who will just toss the tater tots on top and call it good. He’s not as much about the presentation as he is about the flavor, where I’m equal on both.
This Tater Tot Hotdish recipe is something that is usually brough to potlucks. I swear I’ve never been to a potluck that hasn’t had this dish at it, and I’ve been to many potlucks. I get why though, it’s always a favorite and it is so easy to throw together.
My mom makes this corn, potato and beef hotdish that I also absolutely love that is similar to this, but seriously amazing. I’m going to have to whip that one up in the near future here and see what your opinions are on that!
So if you feel like having a little fun with your name play and want to refer to something other than casserole for a change, then whip up this Tater Tot Hotdish and get the confused looks of people around you that will turn into happy faces after they eat.
